Winter Camp 2017 – the aftermath!

I got back yesterday from the Fatbiking Europe Winter Camp 2017 and boy was it a hell of a ride! It had LOTS of everything on offer: amazing trails, great company, tree and petrol flavoured evil spirits, sublime scenery, knee deep death marches, insane (super friendly) yocals, glorious sunshine, expensive fondu and more middle-aged men catapulting over the handlebars than is strictly healthy* – it was quite an event! *disclaimer...

Strathpuffer 2017

I think this was my fifth ‘puffer, though my third riding not for myself, but as escort for my son. Last year Alpkit loaned me one of their Sonder Vir Fortis bikes to ride. I can’t say it was the most suitable bike considering how muddy it was that year. It was however a whole lot of fun to ride. So once again this year I opted to ride the Vir Fortis. The bike was set up with tubes and Schwalbe Jumbo Jims. Having had a...

Fat Viking race

BearBones Winter Bivi 2017

Having completed the Welsh Ride Thing and the Bearbones 200 in 2016 I was determined to return and complete the trio of Bearbones events, so back in November I discussed with my good colleague and fellow fat bike Adventurer Mark Malcolm about entering the Bearbones winter event. It just so happens that Mark runs a Bike Packing venture in Dartmoor (headzortrailz.co.uk) and like me is out on the fatbike whenever possible so he really...

Long-term: 45nrth ‘Wolvhammer’ boot

When we received these boots in the post we were pleased, very pleased indeed. Not only because they looked the dogs b*llocks but also because Charlie (of Bikemonger fame – UK importer of 45rth gear) had sent us two pairs by mistake – woohoo! Annoying we did the right thing and sent a pair back and had to make do with the hardship of only testing one pair of über cold weather fatbiking boots – it’s a hard life....
