Strathpuffer 2017

I think this was my fifth ‘puffer, though my third riding not for myself, but as escort for my son. Last year Alpkit loaned me one of their Sonder Vir Fortis bikes to ride. I can’t say it was the most suitable bike considering how muddy it was that year. It was however a whole lot of fun to ride. So once again this year I opted to ride the Vir Fortis. The bike was set up with tubes and Schwalbe Jumbo Jims. Having had a...

Fat Viking race

Harder, longer, icy. What was supposed to be a 150km fatbike race turned out to be a 175km fatbike race! The course had to be adjusted due to the (VERY) unusually mild winter. Okay, so the race just got longer? We kept the climbing, just in case! Race day was cold enough to make the surface hard and fast, but the warm temperatures leading up to “Fat Viking” had transformed parts of the course to an icy highway. Geilo, the...

ROVANIEMI 150 – RACE REPORT

Race Report: Rovaniemi 150 2016

After my Iditarod Trail Invitational race last year it was pretty clear that I would return to Rovaniemi for a third time. In addition to 66 km and 150 km distances, last year there was a double distance 300 km for the first time. I had already decided to do the 150 km. Some people have asked me that why not 300 km? For those who don’t know, back in 2014 I almost won 150 km. In the last kilometers I rode at wrong side of the...

(Before the) Rovaniemi 300

My name is Jarmo Järvinen and I’m a competitive fat-biker and survival instructor from Finland. I live on the southern most island in the Turku- archipelago, where I also do most of my training. My goal for this winter is the Rovaniemi 300 ultra-endurance race on February 20-25th. It’s a 308km race, consisting of two loops. The first one is the same that the 150km race. It has manned checkpoints and shelter, fire and water on most of...
