Tour de Kurjenrahka

Three weeks ago we had a full-blown winter with subzero temps for over a week and a bit of snow. Smaller lakes and even rivers freezed fairly quickly, so I was instantly thinking about the mires of Kurjenrahka National Park. Me, Peter and JJ had an excellent outing there in March and we crossed all the mires by riding our fatbikes. Two weeks ago me and Peter decided to go back and do the same tour as in March. But the conditions were...

ROVANIEMI 150 – RACE REPORT

When heading out to Rovaniemi 150 I already knew I needed to be prepared for pretty much anything. I had spent countless hours on my bike and believed myself to be in best biking form ever. My gear had been tested with long rides in -27c and I was stocked up with energy and motivation. The only thing I really wasn´t prepared for was pushing the bike through soft snow for 100k out of the 150k race – and that´s exactly what happened....

Two Countries, Three Ferries, Several Beaches

Local radio station, Wave 105, were advertising a big day out. In conjunction with Brittany Ferries, the offer was a cheap day in France. What? An informal gathering of fatbike loving goons in the Jura on the border of France and Switzerland. Not a race, not an event, just a few days of riding in the...

A last (snowy) blast

Winter was over. Done. Finished. It was almost May! Spring had sprung, flowers were out and I’d already started riding other bikes* who’d been neglected for months and months. *Note: don’t get me wrong, I like to ride my fatty in the warmer months too but after 6 months of only riding one bike I was keen to get out on my other mounts. But then one morning there was fresh snow (luckily we hadn’t managed to find...

A romantic weekend in the Engadin

It’s Thursday evening. After a long day at work I walk up the wooden stairs, marked with a couple of years of cleat abuse, to find Laura’s fat bike already packed and ready for a weekend in the snow. A little pride goes in the self-made bags and so I check them thoroughly only to realise that Laura has done a perfect job packing and getting her stuff ready and I need not to touch anything but my own gear and get my bike ready too....
